Thanks for coming and reading this blog - it's been a great start.  Now that Map is part of the Infrastructure Suite, we thought it made sense to realign the blogs a little, so I'm going to start blogging over at http://beingcivil.typepad.com instead. Publish to Map Server errors - IIS upload limit

Getting a mystery error or undescribed failure when publishing to Map Server or MapGuide?  It could be that you are hitting IIS' default upload limit of 30 megabytes.  Now, that's a compressed 30 mb, so it likely won't happen unless you are pushing quite a lot across.

To change the limit:

1. Open the IIS Manager
2. In the main window, double click Request Filtering
3. Right click anywhere, and select Edit Feature Settings.
4. Change the Maximum Allowed Content to a larger value

No restart of IIS should be needed.

Coming Soon...Map 2012!

So you've probably already seen it all of the newswire - the AutoCAD 2012 product line has been announced, and we can finally talk about what is coming out in Map 2012!

Here are the highlights:

• Topobase is now part of Map!
• There are two flavors of Map this year - Map 2012 and Map Enterprise 2012.  The major difference is that Map Enterprise 2012 includes enterprise database functionality linked with Oracle that once existed in the Topobase products.
• Storm & Sanitary Analysis (SSA) is included in Map/Map Enterprise 2012.  This is something that came out as a add-on in the 2011 release and was marketed to the Civil folks.  Now us GIS folks can use it too!

Industry Models for Utlities, formerly known as Topobase

By now you might have heard through the grapevine that Map and Topobase have merged into one product for the 2012 release.  So we still have a Map 3D product, but no longer a separate product called 'Topobase'.  And this imported functionality is referred to in the product docs as Industry Models for Utilities.  So if you just search in the Help section of Map 3D 2012 for Topobase, you will come up empty handed.

There are however, two flavors of Map - Map 3D 2012 and Map Enterprise 2012.  Which is right for you?  The main difference between the two is the Enterprise version allows for the use of the Industry Models for Utilities to work with Oracle spatial databases.  There are a few enhancements that you get if you are working with Oracle vs. non Oracle like jobs (synonymous with versioning) and the fact that you are storing your spatial data within a database, as opposed to within the drawing file.
